Zermatt, Switzerland is the home of The Mountain Studio. This is where we live, design, develop and test our small range of world class products for skiing, outdoor activities and mountain life.
For the love of the mountains
The Mountain Studio was born in the mountains surrounding the mythical village of Zermatt in Switzerland, with the vision of developing a small collection of carefully curated garments for advanced skiing, outdoor activities, and mountain living.
The Mountain Studio is rooted in a lifelong love for skiing and mountain culture. And just as we aim to create world-class products for people to experience the mountains in, we also want to share our vision of mountain culture, to inspire and guide you to new discoveries and adventures.

About The Mountain Studio
The Mountain Studio (TMS) is a premium alpine apparel brand, born at the foot of the Matterhorn in Zermatt, Switzerland. We design and engineer technical wear in Switzerland for the mountains of the world: for skiing, outdoor activities and everyday mountain life. Our collections are organised in three worlds, SNOW, ACTIVE and LIFESTYLE, and our motto is "Buy better, use more."
Founders
The Mountain Studio was launched in 2021 by Stefan Engström and Peter Blom, who together bring more than 40 years of experience in product development and in creating mountain lifestyle culture. Marcel Hirscher, eight-time overall World Cup champion, is our technical co-founder and takes an active part in developing and testing every garment. Read more about Marcel Hirscher.
Where we work
- Product development and testing: our product offices in Zermatt and Zurich, Switzerland.
- Finance: Zug, Switzerland.
- Warehouse, e-commerce, operations, IT and marketing: Åre and Östersund, Sweden.
- The online store is operated by The Mountain Studio Sweden AB, Åre, Sweden.
Materials and manufacturing
- Since 2025, all new products use PFAS-free fabrics and treatments.
- Our shells use GORE-TEX, including PFAS-free GORE-TEX ePE, and ALP-3, our own 3-layer stretch membrane with a PFAS-free DWR treatment. See all our materials.
- We use only RDS-certified (Responsible Down Standard) down.
- Technical garments are made mainly in Asia, and cotton and knitwear at leading European factories. We work only with established partners with high transparency and quality.
- Our products are built to be used for many years. We offer a repair service and a warranty promise.

- The Mountain Studio Store Engelberg, Dorfstrasse 15, 6390 Engelberg, Switzerland. Our first store, opened in 2022.
- The Mountain Studio Store Åre, Årevägen 76, 837 52 Åre, Sweden.
- The Mountain Studio Store Sölden, Rettenbachstrasse 1, 6450 Sölden, Austria, run together with our local partner Sport4You.
- Around 200 selected retailers, mainly in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and other European markets. Find a retailer.

Beyond our products we publish Compass, a guide to mountain destinations with local recommendations and what to wear for the conditions, and The Field Book, a yearly book about mountain life. We also host ski camps, running competitions and community events.
